THE WINES : 350 YEARS OF ELEGANT AND GLAMOUR WINES
Loudenne Le Château
Rare are the dry white wines produced in the Médoc…the Loudenne white, fermented and aged in oak barrels, has been a characteristic of the estate since 1880 making it the eldest white wine producer in the region.
The grapes are hand harvested into small crates in the early morning to benefit from the coolness of the night, sorted on arrival the entire bunches of grapes are transferred to the press.
Protected from oxygenation and at low temperature, they undergo a slow and very gentle pressing lasting several hours.
75% of vinification is carried out in barrels, exclusively French oak with a light and medium toast with one third new oak each year, and 25% in low temperature tanks to preserve the aromatic quality of the Sauvignon grapes.
There is no malolactic fermentation.
Barrel ageing lasts 5 to 6 months with regular stirring, the tanks are stirred at low temperature with the lees.
Nose, eye, palate
A wine with great complexity, Loudenne Le Château white is remarkable for its pale yellow colour with green tints and an expressive nose. If the attack is lively and balanced with citrus aromas, there is also plenty of body and length. The fruity final note, beautifully embelishes the aromas of peach, sultanas and nuts. There is also a slightly salty note, iodine deposited on the grapes by the estuary mist. A wine with good ageing potential, its coulour becomes golden with age. The aromas evolve bringing woody notes and preserved fruits.
Serve at 10°C (remove from the fridge 30 minutes before serving) and avoid using an ice bucket. As with all white wines aged in barrel avoid serving too cold.
Loudenne Le Château whites can be aged for around 10 years but to enjoy them at their best we recommend drinking between 3 and 5 years.
